Construction of 100-bed PGI Satellite Centre at Ferozepur to start soon – Sukhbir S Badal
(Union Health and Family Welfare minister Mansukh Madaviya gives go ahead for the same)
Ferozepur/Chandigarh, Subhash KakkarMarch 14 – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today said construction of the 100-bed PGI Satellite Centre at Ferozepur would finally start with union health and family welfare Mansukh Mandaviya giving the go ahead for the same.
The SAD president, who has also written to the union minister in this regard, said even though the erstwhile SAD government had transferred 27.5 acres of land for the PGI Satellite after it was approved in 2016, the project was still to see the light of day. “Successive governments, including the previous Congress government and now the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government have not taken any effort to expedite the project”. He said it was however happy that the union government had finally decided to give priority to the project after he took up the case and would start its construction soon”.
Mr Sukhbir Badal said it was unfortunate that the prestigious project had been delayed by seven years even after Rs 490.54 crore had been sanctioned for it along with transfer of the project site to a PGIMER, Chandigarh committee. He said the major sufferers were people of Ferozepur who had to traverse long distances for specialty care. “The project, once completed, will be a boon for the border belt”, he added.
Mr Badal has also requested the union minister to hold a ground breaking ceremony for the project soon followed by speedy construction. EOM
